The Plain of Dor stretches along the Mediterranean coast of Israel from the Crocodile River to the scarps of Mt Carmel. Runoff from the Carmel collected behind sandstone (kurkar) ridges and once made this area marshy and unpleasant. The main highway turned inland to avoid it. Today, those marshes have been drained and the ground converted to rich farmland. This shot was taken from near Ein Hod toward Atlit.
