Clay hunting

In and around Jerusalem, the Motza clay formation has been harvested by potters for millennia. Raw materials, when processed, become the fabric of jars and bowls and jugs and many other ceramic containers. While working from the Palestinian Institute of Archaeology in the mid-1990s, local potters helped us identify clay deposits that are still being used today. Here, Na'el a friend and colleague from Birzeit University collects material for signature analysis.
