The work goes on

The Herodium is an amazing site rising in the hills east of Bethlehem (Palestine). Built by Herod the Great at the end of the first century BC, it functioned as a palace, a fortress, an eye-in-the-sky, and ultimately a tomb. Efforts to excavate and restore the site have accelerated in the last decade. Here, we pass by a crew cleaning the debris found in the two meter-wide passage between the cylindrical walls encircling the Upper Herodium. Above, tourists listen to an explanation of the site.
