Dizzying Heights & Dead Sea Views at Masada

The three-tiered ruins of the Northern Palace at Masada cascades down a steep desert cliffside with the Dead Sea in the background.

The Hanging Palace of Masada

King Herod the Great didn’t just build a fortress; he carved a masterpiece. Between 37 and 31 BC, he commissioned the Northern Palace, a magnificent three-tiered “hanging” palace that cascades dramatically down the steep northern cliffs of Masada.

Today, our pilgrims from Mosaic Christian Church descended these dizzying heights via a modern metal staircase. From the tiered terraces, we were treated to a breathtaking view of the Dead Sea stretching into the hazy distance—a stunning reminder of the ambition behind this ancient desert retreat.
