A Bovine Dream that Saved a Nation (Genesis 41)

North African Humpless Shorthorns, often called Baladi, are often seen along the banks of the Nile today.

The Mystery by the Nile

It started with a nightmare. Standing by the Nile, Pharaoh watched as seven sleek, fat cows emerged from the water, only to be devoured by seven gaunt, sickly ones. This impossible sight—weakness consuming strength—left the ruler of Egypt deeply troubled and searching for answers.

The Interpretation of the Dream

When the kingdom’s wisest men failed, a young Hebrew named Joseph was summoned from prison. He revealed the divine warning: the fat cows represented seven years of great abundance, while the gaunt cows foretold seven years of severe famine that would follow and “devour the land.” It was a dream that required action, action that would save the nation.
