Lower Egypt

The Nile Delta is a broad, fertile triangle in Northern (or “Lower”) Egypt where the Nile River fans out and drains into the Mediterranean Sea. This region has served as the nation's agricultural heartland for millennia, as its nutrient-rich silt supported the rise of major ancient cities like Bubastis and Tanis. Today, the Delta remains the most densely populated area of Egypt, characterized by endless green fields and a complex network of branching waterways.
