Study Tour to Egypt, 2025

Group shot at the Pyramid of Khufu, Giza, Egypt.

Here’s the obligatory group shot of our Egypt Study Tour in front of a pyramid.

The pyramid pictured is none other than the Great Pyramid of Khufu, the last standing wonder of the ancient world. To this day, it is an architectural marvel composed of over two million massive limestone blocks. Built during the Fourth Dynasty (ca. 2600 BC) as a monumental tomb for the Pharaoh Khufu, its precise alignment with the cardinal points reflects the advanced astronomical knowledge of the Old Kingdom. Entering the pyramid’s narrow passages leads to the magnificent Grand Gallery and the King’s Chamber, offering a profound glimpse into the engineering genius of ancient Egypt.

A Bad Kohlgrub arrival

A Bad Kohlgrub arrival

It was a short drive from Oberammergau to the village of Bad Kohlgrub. There, at the base of Hörnle Mountain, Marcus delivered Vicki and me to the Hotel Shillingshof. We pulled our rollybags out of the bus and waved goodbye to Marcus and the driver.

We did but we didn't do Oberammergau

We did but we didn't do Oberammergau

We walked into town dragging our rollybags. Across the river we found the village of Oberammergau rimmed by mountains as full of boutique hotels, galeries, and kitschy shops. I fingered my phone hoping to find an open wifi signal and a message with further instructions.
