Our “Taste of Italy” team in Assisi.
Having a grand time in Italy! Here's our team today at the Basilica of Saint Francis in Assisi! Work on the basilica began in 1228, two years after the death of Francis. It is beautifully decorated in frescos. In the crypt below are the remains this patron saint of Italy and the founder of the Franciscan order.
What you may not know is that one part of the Franciscan "family" is the Custody of the Holy Land. This organization traces its presence in Jerusalem back to 1217. Their mission is to is to care for "the grace of the Holy Places" of the Middle East as well as the pilgrims who visit them.
