And Then Our Eyes Met: A Serengeti Encounter

Leopard Face

The leopard's face is defined by a mesmerizing pattern of black “rosettes” and spots of various sizes that provide the perfect camouflage against the dappled light of the African bush. Its piercing eyes are built for precision, containing a specialized layer that reflects light to grant the cat extraordinary night vision. A powerful muzzle and long, sensitive whiskers complete its profile, allowing this silent predator to navigate dense thorns and sense the slightest movements in the dark.

We came across this magnificent creature draped across a tree limb in the Central Serengeti. As I adjusted my zoom lens, he looked up—and our eyes met. It was a heart-stopping reminder that while a leopard is breathtaking to behold, the best way to see one in the wild is from a respectful distance.

Experience the Wild for Yourself

Our 2027 Serengeti expedition dates are officially confirmed for June 3–13. This journey is timed perfectly for the tail end of the rainy season, as we rumble in Land Cruisers toward the Western Corridor to witness the legendary Grumeti River crossing of the Great Migration.

This season, we are adding two exclusive experiences:

  • Lake Victoria: Visit the slapping waves of Speke Bay, the source of the Nile, for a boating excursion and overnight stay.

  • Lake Manyara Canopy Walk: Walk among the treetops in the home of the famous tree-climbing lions.

Both stops are world-class locations for birdwatching and photography. This isn’t a typical tourist tour—it’s an immersive exploration.
